It feels like this

It feels like this when you’re high

On your own thoughts of life

On love

On what might follow

You, you, and you too

In your life

Life feels like it has to be perfect

Right?

Especially now

Right now

But connections in your heart can’t lie 

Every buzz of your phone

Is a hope for you, for me

I open tabs to prepare for your messages

That once came

But will never come back again

Because things will never repeat themselves

Once you were high on love

Once you were high on life

Once you were high on being high

You just want things to keep going

But no, not now, you can’t

And you will never be able to

Because time keeps on moving

You can’t stop it

Now it happened

Now it’s over

So you look for another kinda high

Which kinda means low sometimes

You’re a sucker for the extremes

You want to cry

You want somebody to make you cry

You want to laugh

You want somebody to make you laugh

You forget how to do things yourself

You forget how to be yourself

You forget yourself

How it is being with only yourself

How things were manageable alone

But they’re not anymore

As soon as you know others

And you let go of who you are

Not that it’s bad

In some ways you need to be able to

Just let yourself fade a bit

Let others fill you in

But to keep balance 

On a raging stormy water isn’t easy

To stand up on your board

When the waves hit you needs practice

You will fall 

You will get dragged by the current

But you will stand up again

You will climb that board again

Because you can’t lie

It’s fun to get it going

To be somewhere with your capabilities

To ride the waves looking cool

It’s nice, it’s all fun

Until it’s not anymore

Until it’s only tiring to you

Until the waves don’t get you going

Until the wind stops pushing you

Then you’ll only have yourself

Paddling your body forward

Or backwards, towards the shore

To take a moment to breathe

It’s heavy, all this balancing

It’s not easy

When it’s not only about you anymore

It’s your heart full of love

And your body full of your energy

You just wanna get going

You forget your independence

As you’re used to get carried away

But sit back down now

Look at the waves from afar

Look at the stormy sky clearing up

Get high with that feeling of achievement

Of those memories of happiness you’re feeling

Look up, head up

The blue earth still hugs you dearly

And in your body there’s still your heart beating

It beats for you

Your lungs still breathe for you

A breathing you is happiness to them too

And when you’re ready

Get back into the water

Silence can be beautiful too

Being alone is powerful too

Others don’t determine your value

You’re good as you are

You’re loved as you are

And the waves await you for next adventures
